“This is Paradise!” - Saltergate Schools Celebrate Launch of Enriching New Forest School
We are thrilled to announce the launch of their exciting new Forest School, an enriching outdoor learning initiative that brings the curriculum to life through hands-on exploration in the natural world.
Forest School is a child-centred, long-term learning approach that promotes holistic development through regular sessions in a natural setting. As defined by the Forest School Association, it encourages supported risk-taking, independence, and confidence through learner-led, play-based activities.
In partnership with Born of the Forest, weekly Forest School sessions are now being delivered to Key Stage One pupils at Saltergate Schools, with the programme set to expand to include the entire school next year.
Pupils are already embracing the experience with enthusiasm with one child summing it up by exclaiming, “This is paradise!”
The sessions offer a rich variety of experiences, including:
- Campfire cooking (such as dandelion and banana pancakes)
- Tyre swings, slacklines, and hammocks
- Safe tool use (saws, hammers, peelers)
- Den building and mud kitchen play
- Creating insect habitats and exploring animals and their environments as part of the science curriculum
