Supporting Online Platforms
At Saltergate Schools, we use a range of online learning platforms to support and enhance your child’s learning experience. These carefully selected resources provide engaging opportunities for children to develop key skills in reading, phonics, times tables, and more.
Below, you’ll find an overview of the platforms we use, along with guidance on how they support learning at different stages.
Big Cat Collins
We have chosen Little Wandle Letters and Sounds as our Systematic Synthetic Phonics programme. As part of that programme, we have adapted the way we teach phonics and reading as well as how we listen to children read and the allocation of reading books.
It is really important that the children read the book they have been reading in school at home with you again. The children will be familiar with the book at least another three times. We are aiming for fluency, automaticity and confidence in that book. Your child should be able to read their book without your help. If they can’t read a word, you can read it to them. Talk about the book and celebrate their success. Your child will also continue to bring home a ‘Take Home Book’ for you to share with your child.
Your child’s log in will be: Username: uksais (their name) e.g uksaisjoebloggs
Password: Reading1

Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS)
In either paper form or online, Times Tables Rock Stars is a carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice. Each week concentrates on a different times table, with a recommended consolidation week for rehearsing the tables that have recently been practised every third week or so. This format has very successfully boosted times tables recall speed for hundreds of thousands of pupils over the last 8 years in over 16,000 schools. Times Table Rockstars log in details are given to each student upon arrival in Year 2 and the Junior School. Please check your child's Reading Log for the password.
Recommended time spent on TTRS:
We recommend that students log on at least once a week to practise.
Look out for in-school tournaments though! Every answer counts!
Purple Mash
Purple Mash is an award-winning website for nursery and primary school children. It enables children to explore and enhance their knowledge in a fun and creative way.
Purple Mash log in details are given to each student upon arrival in the Infant School. Please check your child's Reading Log for the password.
Accelerated Reader
Accelerated Reader is a web-based programme that schools may use to monitor reading practice and progress. It helps teachers guide students to books that are at students' individual reading levels. Once a book is completed, students take a short quiz to check that they have understood the story and themes of the book.
Accelerated Reader log in details are given to each child when they start using this programme. Please check your child's Reading Log for the password.
Recommended time spent reading:
- 10 minutes per pupil every day in Y1 & Y2; signing the reading journal 3x weekly
- 15 minutes per pupil in Y3 & Y4; signing the reading journal 3x weekly
- 20 minutes per pupil in Y5 & Y6; signing the reading journal 3x weekly
MyOn
MyON® is a web-based literacy environment that gives students access to more than 6,000 enhanced digital books. Titles are dynamically matched to each individual student’s interests, year and Lexile® reading level. Once a book is completed, students take a short quiz to check that they have understood the story and themes of the book.
MyON® log in details are given to each student upon arrival in the Junior School. Please check your child's Reading Log for the password.
Recommended time spent reading:

- 15 minutes per pupil in Y3 & Y4; signing the reading journal 3x weekly

Please find a guide to who uses which platform in school. Please note that this is a guide. We provide access that is appropriate for each child's learning, for example, we may extend access to Little Wandle or introduce Accelerated Reader sooner.
