Saltergate Schools Mark Stephen Lawrence Day with a Focus on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

At Saltergate Schools, we believe in creating a community where everyone feels seen, valued, and celebrated. As part of a dedicated whole school day focused on equality, diversity, and inclusion, our pupils took part in a range of powerful and thoughtful activities designed to broaden understanding and encourage empathy.

In recognition of Stephen Lawrence Day, our Key Stage 2 pupils gathered for a special assembly to learn about Stephen’s life and the incredible work his family has done in the years since, striving to bring about meaningful change. We reflected on the importance of standing up against injustice and the difference we can each make by treating others with kindness and respect.

Throughout the day, pupils explored stories and shared conversations around what it means to be “the same, but different.” These discussions gave our children the chance to express their thoughts, listen to others, and consider how diversity enriches our lives and our community.

Our Year 4 classes especially shone, offering thoughtful reflections inspired by a range of books. One pupil beautifully captured the spirit of the day by saying:

"Remember to be proud of what you wear or choose to do; don’t let anybody bring you down."

What a wonderful attitude to carry forward, not just today, but every day.

We are incredibly proud of our pupils for their mature insights, respectful discussions, and the compassion they continue to show one another. Together, we are learning not only to understand difference, but to celebrate it.
