Maths in year 5 follows all aspects as stated in the National Curriculum. We aid the children's learning through a range of challenging activities but support them using concrete materials and linking them to abstract processes.
In the Autumn term, we learn about ordering numbers to 6 digits, rounding numbers, understanding place value, negative numbers, addition, subtraction, data handling, multiplication, division, area and perimeter.
In the Spring term, we learn predominantly all about fractions, decimals and percentages.
In the Summer term we cover the following areas: measures including capacity, volume, units of time, interpreting and plotting data on graphs and properties of shape. We conclude the year, consolidating a range of objectives that they have learnt over the course of year 5.
