Please find below details of how our Governing body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of appointment for each Governor.
The Governing Body meets once each half-term, and the three committees (Resources, Safeguarding and Teaching and Learning) meet at least once a term. The Governors have legal duties, powers and responsibilities for the efficient running and upkeep of the school, and for holding the headteacher to account and monitoring standards. Some responsibilities are delegated to individual committees. Associate Governors do not have voting rights on any committees on which they serve.
Governors usually serve for a four year period. The Chair and Vice-Chair are elected each year.

Mr Mark Walker (Chair) | My name is Mark Walker. I have chaired the Governing Body for the last nine years, initially at the infant school and now as chair of the Saltergate federation. I enjoy the challenges that the role presents. To fulfil the strategic vision is our core purpose. The school has been through a number of significant changes in recent years, such as the planning and building of the 1.8 million on-site children’s Centre, securing our own trailblazing pre nursery provision for two year olds, the development of the ‘exceptional’ outdoors and creative curriculum and more recently the federation of the two schools. The stable Governing Body continues to support and challenge the school to move forward in its educational standards, improve outcomes and meet the aspirational targets for each and every child.
Mr Jonathan Bond | My name is Jonathan Bond. I am married with four teenage daughters. I am Pastor of Jennyfield Evangelical Church (12 years). My role within the Governors is as a Community Governor, also serving on the Resource Committee as chair. I enjoy coming into school to lead “Together Times” and have previously enjoyed going on school trips. I often sit on the interview panel when recruiting new staff.
Mrs Anne-Marie Phelps | My name is Anne-Marie Phelps. My children came through Saltergate schools and have now moved on to secondary education. I work in education at secondary level, as a Phase Leader, which gives me an insight and understanding of the challenges in Education. I enjoy being part of the Teaching and Learning committee and challenging standards. It is very clear in these schools that finances are used effectively to the benefit of all children and that a clear emphasis is based upon employing skilled staff. The infant school is currently well oversubscribed and that is in part due to the wonderful team and provision here at Saltergate. I am proud to be supporting the school to move forward with it’s new initiatives and trailblazing plans, and to support the school in accelerating progress further up the school.
Mrs Linda Mortimer | My name is Linda Mortimer. I am the proud headteacher of Saltergate Infant School, Nursery, Gateways and more recently Saltergate Junior school. I enjoy working with the Governors of the school to ensure that our vision is seen in practice. Over recent years we have worked together to achieve some notable achievements for our children; some of which include trailblazing with a two-year-old pre- nursery provision, creating an Atelier, transforming the school meals experience, developing the ‘exceptional’ outdoors and an excellent flexible curriculum. At the Junior school, we are working, with determination, to accelerate progress and secure improved outcomes. Courageous leadership is our ethos.
Mrs Edwina Mort | My name is Edwina Mort. I am married with two children, both of which have been through Saltergate Schools. I have been a Governor since October 2011 and I sit on the Safeguarding committee. I worked for both schools, based in the Junior school office for 10 years but then moved on to work on a corporate environment for the Facilities Management team. I have been instrumental in supporting the development of the lunchtime provision and have organised previously shared lunches with parents. I have also been involved with the development of this website and many other ICT systems throughout school.
Mrs Samantha Blackwood | My name is Samantha Blackwood. I am a staff governor. This is my third term of office and I really enjoy working with the governors at a strategic level. I work in Key Stage 1 on a daily basis as a HLTA, covering classes and leading 1:1 interventions which make such an incredible difference to the children. I particularly enjoyed leading the Children’s Centre building project alongside the headteacher in 2009. The project has made a difference to the lives of families in both the children’s Centre and our school! I am a lead lunchtime playleader and organise the lively lunchtime sessions. All of the active play and dancing certainly keeps us all fit and healthy!
Mrs Judith Hollywood | My name is Judith Hollywood and I have worked at Saltergate for 15 years. Having two children, (one currently in Year 11 and one in Year 8) they have both had the happy experience of attending Saltergate schools. I am the Deputy and SENCO for key stage 2 and teach in Year 6 for two days a week. High expectations are essential to achieving and improving standards for all children. Working as a team, we promote the 5R’s, celebrate success and always strive to adapt, change and improve where necessary.
Mrs Hannah Botterill | My name is Hannah Botterill. I have two daughters currently attending Saltergate School. I teach in a local secondary school, which gives me an understanding of the challenges within the education sector. I am passionate about the education of our children and believe strongly in giving every child the opportunity to thrive, therefore it is a real privilege to be involved with Saltergate School. I look forward to supporting the school in developing and delivering its challenging and inspiring curriculum.
Mrs Kirsty Bull |
| My name is Kirsty Bull and I have a daughter who currently attends Saltergate school. I work as a pastoral middle leader in an SEMH school which gives me a good understanding of the educational sector and the well being needs of young children. I am extremely passionate about children being given the opportunity to experience success in their education and feel privileged to be involved in supporting the school in its continuing success and development. |
Mrs Louise Oddie | ![]() | I have two children at Saltergate, therefore I have a vested interest in the future of the school. Working within the Health Sector, I am interested in the wellbeing of all children. I believe in education which will stimulate and expand their minds creating innovative generations for the future. |
