Achieving Excellence Together

Foundation Subjects

Art, PE, Music, Geography, History, Computing, PSHCE, French and RE are all learnt through thematic approaches in Year 4. We study them through the guise of Ancient Greeks, Romans, Christmas, Australia, Healthy Living, Electricity and the Anglo-Saxons

Opportunities to include maths and written work are important to us at Saltergate, as well as applying hands-on learning and creative approaches to working in groups and independently.

Australia Day

Australia Day 1
Australia Day 2
Australia Day 3
We love to celebrate our Australia topic with an Australia Day. We showcase all our learning to our parents who are invited to attend and take part. We demonstrate our Aussie Rules skills that we have learned in PE, our Aboriginal art techniques and we also enjoy singing traditional Australian songs.

Linking Geography with Maths and English

Linking Geography with Maths and English 1
Linking Geography with Maths and English 2
We enjoy using our English and maths skills in our geography work. When writing newspaper reports in English, we use our interview answers from our Geography lesson about climate change to help us write quotes from a witnesses point of view. When learning about compass directions in Geography, we use our maths skills to help us find the way.

ART DAY

In KS2 we enjoy having an Art Day to focus on a technique and an artist to develop our progression of skills. On this art day, we were looking at the artist Piet Mondrian and focusing on our painting skills. We really enjoyed learning about his life and how he became the famous artist that he is. We looked at Pier Mondrian's work and critiqued it as if we were walking around an art gallery displaying his work. We then used one of his pieces of work Composition II, to influence us in our own design and artistic creation. Using our knowledge of primary and secondary colours, we created a painting using tertiary colours by mixing. We are really proud of our final pieces of art work and had a fantastic day.
