The Saltergate Curriculum

  • High expectations
  • Ambitious Curriculum for all
  • Broad and Balanced
  • Wide range of subjects
  • Coherent and well sequenced
  • Knowledge rich with secure building blocks

Our ambitious curriculum is carefully and thoughtfully planned to ensure that the children’s learning is interactive and inspiring and encourages them to deepen their knowledge of the world around them and the skills required to be successful learners.

Each subject area has a detailed and meticulously planned progression of knowledge and skills document which details the knowledge, concepts and skills the children build on during their time in school.

Vocabulary is a key focus of our curriculum and we ensure this is embedded into all aspects of the children’s learning. This provides our children with the opportunity to express themselves clearly and articulately using appropriate and meaningful language.

We carefully plan visits and visitors to school to enrich and enhance the curriculum and to engage our children and create fun and memorable moments. Within our teaching, we ensure parents are informed of their children’s learning on a regular basis by providing fortnightly Knowledge Organisers based around different curriculum areas. These insightful documents include vocabulary the children are learning, intended outcomes and useful website links. The children can also rise to the challenge of ‘going the extra mile’ by completing a task at home linked to the topic work.

We love to take our curriculum beyond the classroom to develop resilient and active learners through the use of outdoor learning. One of the many ways in which we do this is in our learning of modern foreign languages. Mrs Jackson, our French teacher, provides our children with interactive, outdoor based learning and incorporates songs and games to make language learning fun and memorable.

We also have our ‘Saltergate 500’ which are the 500 things we want our children to have experienced in their time at our school. Every child should have the opportunity to experience adventure, self-less acts of kindness, unique, inspiring and memorable moments in their childhood and that’s what we want the children to achieve by the time they leave us at the end of Key Stage 2.
