Curriculum Content

Reception Curriculum

As well as following the children’s interests our curriculum is related to topic themes which are relevant to the children .These are chosen to promote teaching and learning opportunities which ensure that our children can confidently continue on their learning journey. The curriculum gives children the necessary range of knowledge and skills which can be built upon as they progress through the school.

Topics often relate to the wider world the children live in, celebrating the environment, marvelling at nature, recognising seasonal change, recognising and celebrating difference in our communities and developing the knowledge, understanding and skills which children need to be confident learners throughout their school life and in later life.

Topics chosen always incorporate good quality stories as the development of language and literacy skills underpin our approach. Topics and stories are introduced and related to the relevant vocabulary children will need to be confident communicators. This is also supported within the Chatter Box environment with structured activities promoting Communication, Language and Literacy confidence.

Children learn about famous artists and their work. Creative activities form an important element of our curriculum where children develop their drawing, making designing and thinking skills.

Our curriculum provides structured PE opportunities following the Real PE scheme as well as daily opportunities in our outdoor area to be physical, and explore activities which promote having a fit and healthy body.
