Absence due to illness

If your child is poorly, please contact the school on the first day of absence and every day thereafter until their return to school.

If you do not contact us, we will contact you by phone.

If your child has a medical appointment, please phone the school office to let us know. You can register this absence on the day or even a couple of days before.  (Please do not leave messages with the teaching or support staff.) If your child has been absent from school due to illness such as sickness or an upset tummy, please ensure that the absence period is no less than 48 hours.

Absence due to holidays

Holidays in term time can no longer be authorised. Absence from school during term time may only be taken in exceptional circumstances.

School days are important. We like children to attend every day that they can. Of course, children cannot attend when they are unwell, and we do not expect them to come to school.

Sometimes, for very specific reasons, parents need to take their child out of school during term time. If this is the case, please ensure that applications are completed six weeks in advance of the request. The school will advise if the absence can be authorised or not.

Unauthorised holidays in term time for periods of five school days or more, (at any time during one academic year) will carry a fixed penalty notice issued by the local authority.

Illness in School

When children become ill in school we will contact parents by telephone at home or place of work. In order to avoid delay the school must have a telephone number where contact can be made. If we are unable to contact parents or a designated adult the school will make a decision about the most appropriate way of dealing with the accident or illness.
