At Saltergate, children develop their fluency, reasoning and problem solving skills in Mathematics to prepare them for later life. Mathematics at Saltergate enables children to be proficient, competent and confident with numbers, shapes and measures, and to have the ability to solve arithmetic and real-life mathematical problems.
Mathematics at Saltergate fosters positive attitudes by developing children's confidence in using mathematical equipment and vocabulary, and through developing their mental strategies. Children are encouraged to develop their ability to reason and communicate their understanding of mathematical concepts, as well as develop an understanding of mathematics through a process of enquiry and experimentation.
Children keep Maths Passports with their Mental Maths targets, which are set as homework to be completed three times a week. These passports are taken with the child as they develop their mental and oral maths skills throughout their time at Saltergate.
